Mathematical Modelling of Leptin-Induced Effects on Electrophysiological Properties of Rat Cardiomyocytes and Cardiac Arrhythmias

Elevated plasma leptin levels, or hyperleptinemia, have been demonstrated to correlate with metabolic syndrome markers, including obesity, and may be an independent risk factor for the development of cardiovascular disease. In this paper, we use cardiac models study possible effects hyperleptinemia on electrophysiological properties cardiomyocytes arrhythmias. We modified parameters improved Gattoni 2016 model rat ventricular simulate experimental data ionic currents. used four variants investigate leptin-induced parameter modification at cellular level in 2D tissue. all models, was found increase duration action potential. some cases, observed a dramatic change shape potential from triangular, characteristic cardiomyocytes, spike-and-dome, indicating predisposition tissue increased period arrhythmia caused by spiral wave enhanced dynamic instability, manifesting as meandering, onset hypermeandering, even breakup. The leptin-modified developed can subsequent research heart anatomy models.
